Paul Pope Designs ACRONYM x Nike Air Force 1 Downtown Comics

Watch Errolson become a superhero.

HYPEBEAST TV Features

The recent release of the ACRONYM X Nike Air Force 1 Downtown was met with high praise from industry folk and sneakerheads alike. An epic follow up to last year’s ACRONYM x NikeLab Air Presto and the Lunar Force 1 SP, this sneaker took on a life of its own through the work of comic book artist, Paul Pope.

As part of the campaign surrounding the collaborative sneaker, Nike tapped Pope to elaborate on a greater narrative surrounding ACRONYM’s founder, Errolson Hugh and the new sneaker. Having long drawn apparel to fit certain comic book characters within his art, Paul was immediately drawn to the project, which required of him to create a dystopian science fiction comic strip surrounding the new Air Force 1 sneaker, starring Errolson – who of course can be seen wearing ACRONYM clothing.

Paul tell us the key was to understand the brands and the shoe itself, and then communicate that into comic form. He also revealed that the comic strip is heavily influenced by Errolson’s personality and interests in karate and parkour, as well as his own personal interest in the future of self-automated robots and drones.

In this HYPEBEAST TV video, Paul Pope takes us on a journey through his art, the perception of comics, and the process behind his ACRONYM X Nike artwork.
