AAU ANASTAS Debuts Installation at OMA's Concrete

“While We Wait” fuses nature with architecture.

Concrete, a versatile event space designed by OMA, hosts a new installation by Elias and Yousef Anastas’ AAU ANASTAS design firm. Debuted during Dubai Design Week 2017, the complex structures blend nature and architecture into unified designs.

AAU ANASTAS sourced different colored stones from an array of regions in their native Palestine and pieced them together utilizing a traditional technique called stereotomy. The rocks were then cut by robots and local artists were tapped to finish the project by hand. The intricate lattice-style designs feature a myriad of holes and shades, which gradate as the eye moves up and down the pieces.

The installation is currently on display at Dubai’s Concrete. For more design, take a look at the world’s largest botanical garden in Oman.
