Japan's National Art Center Pays Tribute to Architect Tadao Ando
Featuring more than 270 models, sketches and drawings.
Pritzker Prizer-winning architect Tadao Ando — who has worked on the 7132 Hotel in Switzerland and Tom Ford’s ranch in New Mexico – is the subject of a new exhibition at Tokyo’s National Art Center. The exhibition is split into six different areas: “Origins/Houses,” “Light,” “Void Spaces,” “Reading the Site,” “Building Upon What Exists, Creating That Which Does not Exist” and “Nurturing.”
Titled “Tadao Ando: Endeavors,” the exhibition features more than 270 models, sketches and drawings, including a full-scale replica of his “Church of the Light” design. Elsewhere, there is a recreation of his personal workspace and a model of Naoshima, the so-called “art-island” which features prominent work by Ando.
