Snapchat is planning to release a new augmented reality art platform that will feature art from Jeff Koons and others. It will enable art to be pinned to certain locations in augmented reality that can be seen by users when they hold their phones in the correct location. Snapchat will be promoting sign-ups from artists who want to share their art through the new software.

The multimedia app plans to release the feature along with Koons’s art around the world — with specific locations in Las Vegas, Sydney, and Paris being highlighted in the promotional images. The technology for Snapchat’s latest feature was apparently acquired from Cimagine, an Israeli AR startup that was bought back in December.

Koons, the figurehead artist for the launch, is well-known for his huge balloon animal sculptures. Snpachat wrote, “Discover Koons’s innovative digital installations scattered across the world to experience them for yourself, and learn a little more about them.” The digital artwork from Koons will be available in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Toronto, Sydney, London, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro.
