'POPEYE' Magazine Celebrates 40 Years of Print This July
831 issues and counting.

Founded in 1976 in the wake of the influential Take Ivy movement, POPEYE Magazine has become one of the foremost stalwarts among Japanese menswear titles in the forty years since, growing up alongside and irrevocably influencing several generations of Asia’s menswear-savvy crowd over the decades with its wide-ranging Ametora-driven editorial scope. 831 issues later, the “Magazine for City Boys” celebrates a momentous occasion this July with its 40th anniversary issue, paying homage to the debut issue with its cover and recreations of the original BEAMS adverts that populated the pages of that first issue. With California as its theme, issue #831 features a retrospective of the magazine’s history, a look at the evolution of West Coast culture and fashion over the past four decades, a road trip feature up the California coast, as well as an extensive San Francisco city guide alongside POPEYE‘s usual offering of sharp fashion editorials and commentary.
