Daniel Arsham Introduces Color Into His Art Basel Piece

All thanks to specially made lenses.

Daniel Arsham, the acclaimed artist and co-founder of experimental design studio Snarkitecture, is known for his compelling, fantastical reconstructions of earthly items “lost in time,” all of which have been cast in greyscale — mostly in part to Arsham’s color blindness. However as of last year, Arsham was fitted with special lenses that allows him to see in color. And with that, the artist has started his hand at creating colorful pieces of artwork, namely his piece for this year’s Art Basel in Switzerland (Arsham has also crafted a blue American Flag for Galerie Parrotin). The sculpture comprises of 16 “fictional archeological” basketballs — made out of blue Calcite crystals — placed within a white stand. Make sure to stop by his exhibition if you’re attending the event in mid-June, otherwise look out for more news on Arsham and Art Basel on our site to come.
