Barbara Kruger Makes a Statement About Blind Idealism in The High Line

Tackling the New York landscape with another political mark.

Barbara Kruger may be widely known as the artist whose work inspired the ubiquitous Supreme logo, but in fact, she’s one of America’s most prolific political artists. She’s known to address the issues of power, property, money, race and sexuality via the use of bold Futura or Helvetica fonts. Her latest work is a huge mural covering the side of a building in The High Line in New York City. Named “Untitled (Blind Idealism Is…)”the hand-painted piece overlooks a new public space in the area. The words are an adaptation of a quote from Afro-Caribbean philosopher and revolutionary thinker Frantz Fanon. The original statement from Fanon says, “Blind Idealism is reactionary,” and Kruger has interpreted it as a reflection of “how we are to one another within the days and nights that construct us.” Head over to The High Line to see the grand mural for yourself.
