Yayoi Kusama Debuts "Footprints of Life" in Hawaii

Her first exhibition in Hawaii.

Ahead of the Honolulu Biennial celebration of local and Indo-Pacific contemporary art, Yayoi Kusama has unveiled her 15-piece “Footprints of Life” installation in Honolulu. The Tokyo artist’s vibrant sculptures can be interpreted as islands or perhaps the Kahuli tree snails, a regional species to Oahu that almost went into extinction back in the mid-20th century. A reoccurring theme in Kusama’s work is the symbiotic connection between humans and the environment, something which she believes is a blessing from nature. With this being her first showing in Hawaii, the artist hopes that her “works born from this process will impress as many people as possible in Hawaii and touch their hearts.”
