Tom Sachs Presents a NASA-Inspired Tea Ceremony @ Noguchi Museum
A clashing of cultures.
“Tea Ceremony” is the latest exhibition by all-around creative Tom Sachs, which is now on display at the Noguchi Museum in Long Island. As part of the museum’s 30th anniversary programs, the American artist has unveiled a series of works centered around his reinterpretations of chanoyu, a Japanese tea ceremony. The immersive installations include large stone sculptures by Isamu Noguchi, in addition to a tea house featuring variations of lanterns, gates, a wash basin and koi pond built by the NY native himself. An ultra HD wall projecting a Mt. Fuji, and a bronze bonsai constructed out of 3,600 welded parts have also been put on display. According to the artist, “The tea ceremony is about tranquility, harmony and respect.
