Striking Photos of Berlin's Housing Projects

Photographer Malte Brandenburg uniquely captures the city’s residential buildings in “Stacked.”

Self-taught photographer Malte Brandenburg methodically captures the high-rise apartments of the post-war housing boom in Berlin through his series titled “Stacked.” “For this project I wanted to isolate these buildings to put the right focus on the subject, to make them comparable,” Brandenburg tells The Creators Project. In order to achieve this, he had to ensure that the timing and angle were all consistent, which can be quite complex in a large city like Berlin. Brandenburg also displays only the tops of the structures, focusing on the skyline and removing distractions like graffiti, trees and nearby buildings that are closer to the street level. The result is a collection of images that look like they’re straight out of a Wes Anderson movie set. See the photos above and head over to Brandenburg’s website to see more of his works.
