Art Basel 2016 Takes Hong Kong by Storm

The annual art and culture extravaganza is back.

Now heading into its fourth year, Art Basel Hong Kong has seriously brought the city an air of cool that was arguably missing before. Now, what’s unofficially dubbed “Art Week” (alongside Art Central, another visual affair) has become a cultural extravaganza for the whole city. This year, over 239 galleries from 35 countries fill two storeys inside the vast exhibition space at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center. Largely considered Asia’s biggest art fair, the 2016 edition brought in 16 artists who created original commissions for the fair, while other notable pieces include Juergen Teller’s photograph of Kim Kardashian, which is on the market for $56,800 USD. With more than 60,000 visitors expected this weekend including everyone from art aficionados to celebrities, Art Basel is one event that you don’t want to miss.
