Rick Owens Talks About His New Furniture Exhibition at MOCA and Michèle Lamy

And what it’s like working with his “fairy witch” wife.

American designer Rick Owens recently caught up with WWD from the rural town of Bologna, Italy, where his clothes are produced, to talk about his upcoming collections and his furniture show opening at Los Angeles’s MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) on December 17. In addition, the “Godfather of brutal chic” also spoke about his wife, muse, and “fairy witchMichèle Lamy and what it’s like working with her on the new project. “One day for Christmas I am going to get Michele her own crane. She loves heavy machinery,” Owens said. The couple started creating furniture in 2007, and the exhibition at the MOCA will showcase 20 percent classic pieces and 80 percent new creations.

On his upcoming show:

“I love being able to manipulate space and create a utopian vision. I’m completely aware of the poignancy of reaching for something that is unattainable. That is the beauty of utopias. It’s only a matter of time before they’re corrupted.”
