A Look at Michael Murphy's Multi-Faceted Installation for the Recently Premiered Series 'The Young Pope'

A visual interpretation of the character’s complex personality.

Michael Murphy, the artist behind pieces like “Identity Crisis” which you may recognize, has completed his most recent installation in promotion of HBO and Sky Atlantic UK’s upcoming series The Young Pope. The show which debuted only weeks ago stars Jude Law as the fictional Pope Lenny Belardo, who is both complex and multi-faceted with a drive for revolution. Italian director and screenwriter, Paolo Sorrentino who worked on it considers the series a work of art deserving of a highly artistic approach to its promotion, making the commission of Michael Murphy a perfect match. Through strategically mapped-out imagery suspended in mid-air, the viewer is challenged intellectually with illusion as they see the protagonist’s face fragment and come together. The technically intriguing piece is currently on display at the Sky Atlantic Headquarters in London. Check out the visuals above for a closer look, the HBO trailer below and more from Michael Murphy here.
