James Franco Honors the "Glazing Process" for New Sotheby's Video

Inspired by the “Glazed: The Legacy of the Della Robbia” exhibition.

James Franco has cooked up a new visual piece for renowned auction house Sotheby’s Artist Response series. Using the “Glazed: The Legacy of the Della Robbia” exhibition as his inspiration, Franco delivers a video featuring tributes to work from artists Andrea, Marco and Giovanni della Robbia. “For centuries, sculpture has been used decoratively and as iconography. The Della Robbia family created sculptures that take on both of those roles,” Franco explains to Dazed. “I was immediately struck by the vibrancy and shine of the glaze of the Della Robbia sculptures in this show, especially the human forms frozen in time as icons. To mimic and modernize these sculptures, I wanted to create living icons emphasizing the glazing process.” You can check out James Franco’s entry in Sotheby’s Artist Response series above.

Late last month, James Franco resurfaced in a trailer for the forthcoming film King Cobra.
