Ry David Bradley "Not to be Digitized" @ Tristan Koenig

Exploring what the postcard means in today’s digital age.

New York-based artist Ry David Bradley explores the concept of the postcard and what it means in today’s digital age of social media with his recent location-specific installation, ‘Not to be Digitized.’ The exhibition was a series of two-sided paintings based on Australian postcards, presented as an immersive off-site project by Sydney-based gallery Tristian Koenig. Inspired by a hand-written note that said, “Not to be Digitized,” that he found on a cupboard at the New York Public Library’s ‘Pictures Collection,’ Bradley reinterprets a medium that has long been considered to be an outdated mode of communication. The Pictures Collection, which is comprised of over one million original prints, photographs, posters, postcards and illustrations from a diverse range of sources, thus prompted the artist to reflect on contemporary methods of communique and why the postcard still endures. You can see more works from David Bradley at his website.
