Kenny Scharf "Schow" @ Frederic Snitzer Gallery

The legendary NYC artist shares new works.

Brooklyn artist Kenny Scharf opened his exhibition of new works, “Schow,” at last year’s Art Basel 2015 in Miami. During the event, he also presented an exclusive print as a celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Titled “Miamor,” the new work was shown at the opening reception of the exhibition on December 4, 2015 at the Frederic Snitzer Gallery. The artist first garnered attention in NYC’s East Village art scene during the 1980’s and was known for his cartoon-like, albeit highly ambitious, installations and paintings. As a friend and frequent collaborator of famed street artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Scharf has since grown to become a legend in his own right.

Continuing in his hallmark style, the artist is known for his idiosyncratic combination of forward-looking aesthetics and historical influences from past movements such as Pop and Surrealism. As a unique intersection between various points of references, Scharf shares a dynamic vision that brings together everything from pop culture and science fiction, to donuts and fantastical beasts. “Schow” is currently exhibiting now and will run until January 25, 2016. You can check out the video coverage of the exhibition above.
