Hong Kong to Be Covered in Thousands of Glowing Flowers in Massive Art Installation

Light pollution of the good sort.

Hong Kong natives often complain about the light pollution inherent with living in a hyper-dense urban conglomeration of seven million, but the latest mass art installation to hit the city might be the cause of more smiles than sleepless nights. Called Light Rose Garden, the installation was first displayed at Seoul’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza — the main site of Seoul Fashion Week — and was created by creative agency PANCOM. With Hong Kong as the first stop on its international tour, the installation entails planting 25 LED-equipped waterproof artificial roses per square meter, which adds up to 25,000 roses in total. Taking place in two two-day phases — one around Valentine’s Day, and the other on the Chinese Lantern Festival – Light Rose Garden will be exhibited at the Central business district’s Tamar Park. Those particularly enamored by the art project can purchase a rose for themselves, at $100 HKD each (approximately $13 USD each). For more information, click here.
