Brooklyn-based, Irish-born photographer Rich Gilligan has shot some of the world’s most ambitious and elaborate homemade skate parks for a new coffee table book entitled DIY. From Brooklyn to Berlin, from Manchester to Malmö, Gilligan captures the independent attitude and uncompromising camaraderie of the world’s skateboarding community. Detailing haphazard structures, clumsy construction, and some of the intriguing and beguiling characters involved, DIY is a documentation of a culture which has long strained to be free of the mainstream.
