Throughout a career that spanned several decades, Duane Hanson has been a pioneering figure in the world of hyper-realistic art with his works depicting the lives of working-class citizens and sometimes harsh truths. His work has been on display in some of the world’s most notable galleries with his latest exhibition finding its way to the Serpentine Galleries in London – marking nearly 20 years since his work was shown in the city. Each piece references appliances and accessories of bygone eras with their hyper-realistic owners made from a combination of bronze, resin and polyvinyl before being carefully painted and dressed in real clothes. The general direction of Hanson’s work appears eerie and melancholy, yet remains wholly fascinating as many struggle to believe each recreation is in fact not alive. Duane Hanson’s latest exhibition at the Serpentine Galleries will run through until September 13 with more information available at the gallery’s official website.
