The Sydney Opera House is one of the most iconic structures in the world, and now we are getting a chance to see it like never before thanks to creative studio Universal Everything. The studio worked with 22 creatives around the world to give the Opera House’s trademark sails a cool, albeit temporary, facelift thanks to hand-drawn animations that were projected onto the structure. Artists were given keywords like “grow,” “bounce” and “climb” as a prompt, and worked to create animations inspired by a plethora of design styles, from Roman engravings to modern street art. While this isn’t the first time art has been projected onto the Opera House, it definitely represents a departure from the high-tech projections of the past. “Our analogue animation process reveals a human soul in the drawings – something we hope the audience can relate to,” Creative Director Matt Pyke said of the project, which he hoped would make people think of the “flick book animations in the corners of their school books.”
