A collection of close-up images of pencils, made by Alex Hammond and Mike Tinney is on display at Paul Smith’s West London flagship store until June 3. Incorporating the creative tools of the world’s best creatives, including Tom Dixon, David Bailey, James Dyson and Sir Quentin Blake, the exhibition aims to showcase the ongoing use of the most humble of implements in the modern creative world. ”The humble pencil is found where most of mankind’s greatest achievements begin” explains Hammond on he and Tinney’s 52 strong set of prints, “They’re at the top of their game, these guys, very established creative heroes. The stories behind the images gave it a lot more depth. Suddenly it became a bit more of a window into their creative process.” The Secret Life Of The Pencil runs from May 20 to June 3 and proceeds go to helping the work of Children In Crisis.
