Barry McGee & Todd James "FUD" Exhibition @ V1 Gallery

Founded in 2002 by Jesper Elg and Peter Funch before being joined by Norse Project’s Mikkel

Founded in 2002 by Jesper Elg and Peter Funch before being joined by Norse Project’s Mikkel Grønnebæk in 2004, Copenhagen’s V1 Gallery has earned itself a well-respected reputation for introducing a careful selection of established and emerging artists to an international audience. Situated within Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District, V1 retains a certain aesthetic associated to the area’s main trade with mix-match flooring and metal fittings that centre around a cinema-like admissions booth for a space that is wholly professional yet veers away from the sterile approach of many other art spaces in the city.

For the gallery’s latest “FUD” exhibition, V1 has called on the work of Beautiful Loser’s artist Barry McGee and contemporary New York City-based artist Todd James. Both having come from a background in graffiti under which James went by the name REAS and McGee was known for monikers such as Ray Fong and Twist, each artist’s conflicting yet familiar style is a culmination of figurative references, bright colors and geometric motifs. “FUD” will open on May 29 at V1 Gallery.
