'Cars and Bodies' Series Fits Maximum Occupancy in Cars

Three French artists are taking the old clown car circus act concept to a new level for their photo series “Cars and Bodies.” Romain Dussaulx, Yann Rabanier, and Thomas Cestia have taken to stuffing a dozen people or more into cars and photographing the results at various iconic locations around Los Angeles. The subjects are often somehow related to the location, which Dussaulx says was done to allow the photos to “work as a kind of a sociological study of different parts of the city.” For instance, in Venice Beach, a tiny old-school Fiat 500 is stuffed with basketball players as a nod to the famous courts nearby, which have appeared in scenes from classic cult films such as White Men Can’t Jump and Breakin’. It sometimes took several hours to get the subjects arranged properly, and while the results are unbelievable, there’s no Photoshop trickery going on here; in fact, the images were captured on a regular old Shen Hao 4×5 camera. Enjoy the “Cars and Bodies” photos above.
