Usugrow Shows off His Amazing Calligraphy Work @ Woolloomooloo Xhibit Taipei

Elegant penmanship meets tattoo work.

Artist and calligraphist Usugrow has just opened his fist ever solo show at Taipei’s Woolloomooloo。Xhibit space, sponsored by G-Shock and Taipei’s own Remix Clothing. The Japanese native, founder of the Shinganist (or Outsider) collective, uses black paint and motifs of skulls but, instead of using the symbols to remind the audience of their looming mortality, they are employed instead as symbols of rebirth and beauty. The artist’s work marries his elegant penmanship with a style reminiscent of his earlier work in tattooing and crafting logos for punk and metal bands. He also lent his pen for a special edition G-Shock watch. Check out the exhibition recap photos above.
