Artists Combine LEGO with IKEA Furniture

Blending both art and functionality together, collaborating artists Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro have transformed IKEA furniture into works of art by intertwining LEGO sculptures into the pieces, titled “Venereal Architecture.” The set of artwork represents much more than meets the eye however, as the use of the iconic brands — both widely known for their buildability — stand for the idea of bridging the gap between creative aspiration and banal practicality. On top of this, the body of work also represent the nomadic lifestyle of turning the inhabitable into the hospitable — something that both artists have personally experienced. If that wasn’t enough, sex also plays a part in the meaning of their work, as the animals come to represent our inner urge to mate. What better way to find that partner than to build the perfect nest by shopping for the most desirable combination of objects. According to the artists, “The consumer experience must be the result of some natural urge gone slightly wrong.”
