We recently sat down with James Jarvis on an in-depth conversation about his illustrious career, covering his early inspirations, skateboarding and toy design. With the closure of his AMOS label in 2012, Jarvis pursued a new project called Spheric Dialogues in which he drew a philosophy comic strip everyday. Publishing the comics on his blog, Spheric Dialogue was an intellectual departure from AMOS’ vinyl characters, providing another voice for his ideas. “I don’t think people paid much attention to the meaning behind AMOS toys; but making a comic strip with no product base demanded more thought,” notes Jarvis. In our latest Pen & Paper, we catch the designer at “Art Marathon” – a charity painting event hosted by Kiehl’s where he shares with us snippets from the series. Albeit a minimalist presentation, the comic strip is upheld by underlying metaphors, often incorporating skateboarding themes in its narrative. Enjoy the Pen & Paper and head to James Jarvis’s WordPress for more on Spheric Dialogues.
