It’d be hard to walk down an urban side street and not be reminded of Jose Parla‘s work. After all, the Miami-born artist strives to emulate those abandoned city walls, plastered with layers of old wheat paste bills and faded paint. Creating this idea within a canvas has been a 20-year exploration for Parla. He has recently wrapped up an exhibition, “The Wrinkles of the City,” with famed French artist JR, as well as an independent showing at YUKA TSURUNO GALLERY in Tokyo. Here, Hugo Vitrani sits down with Parla to discuss the inspirations for his unique work, a discussion juxtaposed by breathtaking photos of the artist’s pieces. Enjoy the video above.
