Born into a creatively engaging environment with a ballerina mother and graphic designer father, James Reka knew from an early age his passion for art would guide him into adulthood as a worldly artist. As an adolescent living close to the train line, the Melbourne native was intrigued by the graffiti-filled train cars he rode each day, which is why today he chooses to paint on the nontraditional canvases of city walls and “found objects.” These found objects are simply discarded items Reka discovers on his travels and manipulates them into works of art, thus reinventing its purpose. The above short documentary provides a glimpse into the process of how the young Australian artist searches for and revives his “found objects” during a visit to Europe in 2012.
