Known for his pieces highlighting the contradictions that exist within contemporary society, Italian artist Gianni Motti recently opened his first solo exhibition at storied Parisian space Galerie Perrotin. Entitled “Money Box” and informed by Karl Marx’s seminal exposition of capitalism, Capital: Critique of Political Economy, the piece appears especially poignant in this time of financial crisis and sees the money allocated for the production of the exhibition suspended in the form of crisp $1 USD bills from Galerie Perrotin’s ceiling. This “budget as piece” made its debut on April 20 and will remain on display in The City of Light through June 15.
