While today Jesse Frohman‘s work is heavily featured by retailers such as Barneys, Levi’s and Volvo, some of his most famous work to date is that of legendary rock star Kurt Cobain. The photos, while encapsulating portraits of the late Cobain on their own, live forever in history as some of the last photos taken of the Nirvana frontman before his untimely death in April 1994. The photos were taken at the height of Nirvana’s success during their In Utero tour, while behind the scenes Cobain continued to battle drug and alcohol addiction. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Frohman gives a detailed account of the day’s work that went into the shoot, which he outlines as a very improvised and difficult experience. The Jesse Frohman “KURT” Exhibition will be available for viewing at Opening Ceremony Tokyo from March 8 through March 24.
