Shanghai-born artist Jacky Tsai has continued to astonish and pioneer through his dedication to melding Eastern craftsmanship with contemporary Western pop art. This ethos eventually led him to his tenure at McQueen, where he worked in pattern design for the brand. That experience combined with his newly discovered penchant for fashion and textiles resulted in the production of the famous Floral Skull motif for the brand, which were first printed on silk as opposed to paper. His acclaimed two-dimensional creation takes on new life with his recent series of 1.6m skull sculptures covered in a thousand leather flowers. While the crisp shape of the cuts certainly attest to his skill, the rich color and natural luster of the leather was the perfect choice of materials in accentuating the contrast between the lively flowers and the morbid form they grow over.

These releases coincide with the recent launching of his eponymous fashion label Jacky Tsai, which embody his re-imagination of beauty through new approaches to traditional methods and materials.
