THROUGH THE LENS: Atiba Jefferson

Los Angeles-based photographer Atiba Jefferson‘s work doesn’t strictly fall into one category. Encompassing the realms of music, fashion and sports, Jefferson’s replete resume sees a  variety of publications and commercial campaigns for the likes of Nike, Pepsi, Mountain Dew and adidas, while a tenure as a staff photographer for the LA Lakers and Transworld SKATEboarding only affirms his talent with sought-after labels. In this episode of THROUGH THE LENS, we focus on Jefferson’s footing in the skateboarding world. A founding member of The Skateboard Mag, Jefferson’s long played role in the participation and documentation of the sport, garnering numerous photos that capture the likes of Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston, Jason Dill and Tony Hawk in the midst of trickery, while also providing a scope into the rugged nature of the sport and the lifestyle that shapes it. Following from a self-titled exhibition this summer, Jefferson returns to Los Angeles’ HVW8 Gallery with his current exhibition “SORRY FOR NOT SHOWING ART,” taking place from now till December 15.

A picture is worth a thousand words — at least that’s how the old saying goes. Our latest feature THROUGH THE LENS aims to see the world through the lens of various creatives. Be it a professional photographer, a blogger, a creative director, or just a fashion designer who happens to have an affinity for taking pictures, each photo set offers a glimpse into the frame of those individuals who have captured a very unique moment in time. In place of textual interviews or written pieces, THROUGH THE LENS is a visual interpretation and platform for those who have a story to tell. A picture’s worth a thousand words? Enjoy the read.
