Bringing his unique “INSIDE OUT” project to the city of Hong Kong, French artist JR today unveil an impressive 16 large-scale black and white portraits of Hong Kong city dwellers within the Central district of the metropolis. The massive visuals reside on the roof of one of the city’s elevated footbridges that is located above Connaught Road. Co-presented in conjunction with Galerie Perrotin and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, the piece was compiled after taking photographs of over 175 people. One of the most notable rallying points surrounding JR’s art was reflected in Galerie Perrotin’s founder, Emmanuel Perrotin who mused, “Through the use of black and white photographic portraits, JR aims to challenge the public to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world and transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artwork.”
An official opening reception for the gallery is slated to open tonight from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at Galerie Perrotin.
