Revok‘s second exhibition at LA’s Known Gallery opened last Saturday, July 28 to much fanfare. Titled Gilgamesh, the showing included a series of reassembled art pieces using scavenged objects taken from churches, abandoned homes, businesses and forsaken buildings in Detroit, Michigan where the Riverside-born artist now resides. Reforming rubble and urban decay into aesthetic artwork, these pieces tell the stories of the streets they are named after. The inspired graffiti artist recounts the Sumerian king’s quest for eternal life in the Epic of Gilgamesh as he aspires to resurrect forsaken parts of the city and bestow immortality on Detroit’s ruins by turning them into art.
