Since joining Tumblr back in early March, venerable newspaper The New York Times has been steadily releasing stunning photographs from their archives as a way of showing that old-world publications and new media aren’t so different after all. To their best estimate, the archive contains 5-6 million prints and 300,000 sacks of negatives. In this short film from the folks at Tumblr, take a journey inside the heart of the “Lively Morgue” where the viewer is treated to a behind-the-scenes glimpse at a location whose purpose is to preserve the past. Called the “dead used material” of a newspaper continuing to move forward, the Lively Morgue is a reminder that digital progress can’t kill every old-world way of doing things.
