The works of the late American illustrator and sculptor Alexander Calder are currently being exhibited at the L&M Gallery. Calder is best known for being the inventor of the mobile sculpture, after his unique method of sculpting by twisting wire and “drawing” three-dimensional figures before suspending them in mid-air. These early renditions gave way to dynamic, or ‘kinetic’ sculptures later that would undulate and move on the air’s currents. Many of these works — both early projects and contemporary, will be exhibited until June 16 at the L&M Gallery in Los Angeles.
