This weekend celebrates the explosive opening of Cai Guo Qiang’s exhibition at The Geffen Contemporary at the MOCA in Los Angeles. This incidentally also marks the first solo West Coast showcase of the lauded New York-based Chinese artist’s works, and will feature commissioned pieces including three gunpowder drawings and one onsite explosion. The pyrotechnic outdoor exhibit “Mystery Circle” will take place Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on the exterior wall of The Geffen Contemporary overlooking Temple Street, hotly preceding the exhibition’s commencement on Sunday. Sky Ladder is metaphysical, bizarre, experiential and visual all at once, and promises to deliver Cai’s usual eccentric imagination in the form of aliens, flying saucers and explosions.
