The depressing upshots of deindustrialization within the former capital city of capitalism and symbol of dynamic U.S. economy are captured on a publication prepared by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre, titled “The Ruins of Detroit.” A five-year collaboration that started in 2005, the much acclaimed body of work is laden with visuals that highlights several abandoned establishments in Detroit, where odds and ends, and ruins – reminiscent of past fallen empires – are common scenery. Aiming to provide a surreal glimpse of the Motown’s former glory with a degree of uncanny beauty, a selection of images from the publication is currently being exhibited at London’s Wilmotte Gallery. Curated by Tristan Hoare and Julien Dobbs-Higginson, the exhibition is slated to run until April 27, 2012.
