Capturing 25 portraits of Havana’s oldest residents, both the process of seeking out subjects as well as the physical act of installation instills a sense of civic pride and respect for the people portrayed. The two artists combined their artistic practices, fluidly interlacing Parla’s signature gestural painting and palimpsestic writing with JR’s enormous wheat-paste portraits – creating textures with great depth and quality on a host of surfaces.
