JR and Jose Parla: Wrinkles of the City, Havana Cuba is a book that provides an in-depth examination of the creative process behind the first collaboration between the two storied artists that culminated in a series of outdoor murals for the Havana biennial. Capturing 25 portraits of Havana’s oldest residents, both the process of seeking out subjects as well as the physical act of installation instills a sense of civic pride and respect for the people portrayed. The two artists combined their artistic practices, fluidly interlacing Parla’s signature gestural painting and palimpsestic writing with JR’s enormous wheat-paste portraits – creating textures with great depth and quality on a host of surfaces. The 160-page hardcover book presented in English and Spanish is available at The Standard shops and online for $50 USD.
