The venerated Ron English returns to New York’s Opera Gallery from November 1 to November 29 with his new show. “Crucial Fiction” is a culmination of the ‘father of street art”s latest endeavor–to give life to the feverish, animated imaginings of his 8-year old self. With all the skill and mastery that his 50-year-old person now possesses, English reverts to childhood abandonment in this series, combining trademark pop surrealist technique and Renaissance painting finesse with the fantastic vision of his boyhood self. Expect brilliant color and nightmarish reinterpretations of the Virgin, the Rolling Stones, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, breakfast cereals, Saturday morning cartoons and more.
