Baltimore-based artist Julia Kim Smith has dubbed herself “a conceptual artist whose work explores issues of identity, memory, and the artistic, social, and political landscape.” Her latest series of photographs, however, is more of a pop culture nod. Featuring the modern hooded spectre that has come to be inextricably linked with the artist Banksy in a series of banal small-town situations, Smith explores what it would be like to unexpectedly receive the temperamental British icon as a houseguest. From lounging in the living room to helping with the chores and even enjoying a bucket of cold beers, the series At Home with Banksy allows us to imagine the artist in ways most people wouldn’t ever imagine.
