Artist Ryan McGinness creates a new novelty gift for The Standard Hotel with his collection of Blacklight Nudie Cards. A modern take on nudie cards which date back to the 16th century in India with Kama Sutra depictions, McGinness’ version features a high visibility of color to each card best used with blacklights. It’s this very blacklight process which McGinness states, “My use of fluorescent paint under the blacklight color spectrum is a strategy to force a singular time/space experience with the work. That is to say, the work must be experienced in person, and cannot be fully appreciated through reproductions via jpegs or printed catalogue pages.” The cards are available now with a retail price of $35 USD.
