Starting on Sunday, April 17 (following a members-only opening on April 16), The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles will be presenting an exhibition called Art in the Streets. The first of its kind in the U.S., the exhibition will trace the history and development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to present day. Installations and works by more than 50 of the world’s most dynamic street artists will be on display including pieces by Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quiñones, Futura, Margaret Kilgallen, Swoon, RISK, Shepard Fairey, John-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, JR and Mister Cartoon. Emphasis will also be placed on photographers and filmmakers who documented graffiti and street art culture including Spike Jonze, Terry Richardson, Martha Cooper and Ed Templeton. Following its stay at the MOCA (April 17-August 8, 2011), the exhibition will travel to New York where it will be displayed at the Brooklyn Museum (March 30-July 8, 2012).
